Franklin’s
math program uses a wide variety of materials and resources
to teach mathematics. The primary text for K–5 is Everyday
Math from the University of Chicago.
The primary text for grades 6–8 is Connected
Mathematics from Michigan State University.
Our mathematics program has three main goals:
1) Offer a rigorous
math education with significant breadth and depth.
2) Maximize each student’s
problem solving ability to develop a wide range of strategies
that work in concert with a strong knowledge base.
3) Apply math concepts
to real life situations.
Beginning in 4th grade, students are divided into two groupings
based on classroom performance and standardized tests. The
accelerated math group moves at a faster pace and maximizes
the students' reasoning abilities.
Students in grades 7 and 8 participate in the Illinois Math
Counts competition. For the past 10 years, our students have
placed first or second in individual and team regional competitions,
placing first over half of the time.
