The class piano course is designed to introduce and advance
Franklin students in the study of music for the piano. Students
are taught theory and performance technique from a wide range
of piano literature incorporating various styles of music.
The collections of music are taken from a large catalogue
of solo and ensemble pieces
The class piano room is equipped with eight electronic pianos
for accompanying Yamaha inter-communication console and a
key-note visualizer. With this classroom setting, students
can practice alone or in small groups with the use of headphones.
Each piano is connected to the main "teacher" console.
In this way, the teacher and student(s) can work individually,
while others may practice on their own without disturbance.
The piano lab accommodates a total of approximately 120 students
yearly in both beginning and/or continuing classes. Currently,
entry level for this program is at the third grade. Initial
participation is judged on readiness; however, most students
who show a continued interest in class piano will have an
opportunity to participate before they leave Franklin.
