Welcome to our Art Room!
In the art room, students focus on creating projects from
multiple medias including ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking,
photography, papier-mâché, and mixed media.
Students are exposed to an extensive art vocabulary that
encourages synthesis of thought, design, and practice.
The
students will learn about why different cultures create art
and how these cultures shape the way students view their
own world. The students will also study local artists, contemporary
artists, outsider artists, and artists that have made a lasting
impact on our world today.
Our school now has two public art installations created
by students working with Chicago artists Ginny
Sykes and
Phil Schuster. Ginny Sykes directed the creation of a two-story
tile mosaic that greets our community as they enter the main
door. Phil Schuster taught students how to create cement
conifers, tile bonsai trees, and a stunning pagoda that enhances
our Asian garden. Please stop by the front of the school
and admire the new art!

This year, the visual arts department
will be hosting a big show. Our work will celebrate
the transformations in our Asian garden. All visual
arts students from K-8 will create installations for
public display in the garden. The show will take place
during the week of May 23rd. We are very excited to
host this event and show off all the hard work of our
students, parents, and faculty. |
